AbstractFor the setting of health services the Ottawa Charter (1986) had a special and radical message, “reorient health services”, which was mitigated by WHO in establishing an international network of Health Promoting Hospitals (1990) which opened itself up to become an association and network for Health Promoting Hospitals and Health Services (2008). Following the settings approach this network aims at improving health gain for all its stakeholders, i.e. patients, staff and community population and its tools define strategies and standards focused at all three stake holder groups. Nevertheless, reorienting clinical core practices for patients to become more health promoting still is one of the greatest challenges for hospitals and other health services, e.g. for NCDs which are high on the global health agenda these days. In this context, the presentation will focus on four areas:
1. Discuss the principal possibilities for health promotion in clinical practice
2. Present exemplary evidence for selected types of health promotion interventions in clinical practice
3. Show in how far member hospitals of HPH have implemented health promotion interventions for patients
4. Discuss what kind of capacity building for health promotion improves implementation of patient oriented health promotion in HPH hospitals.
